Johns Griff 200 Part Two

Finally got the car on the 24th Sept 06 from France after getting the Honeymoon out of the way!!

Car is the real deal. And one of the first 3 made these were deemed the lightweight cars, the body and bonnet being unbelievable light! Mind you the engine (even being a thin wall 289) gearbox and Jag Salisbury bits are all heavy but very low slung and right in the middle of the car.

The fun bit about these cars is the really short wheel base!

Car was know for a long time in the US before Fabien bought it in 01 and has done a lot to it so far (even though it still looks like it is in a thousand bits).

The numbering of the cars sold is not sequential 015, 016, and 017 (mine)came after 000 (the prototype) then the rest these first 3 cars had lower engine mounts as well as they had a modified Grantura chassis and the the std Grantura bonnet for the later production runs that put the larger bulge on the bonnet. The original chassis had turned to dust and it has a new one from David Gerald which Fabien has done a lot of work strengthening around the rear end for the big power it will take.

We did not want the gearbox that Fabien had sourced as a T10 and too old, you need a Toploader (and ideally a Cross Ratio one). I had priced this up and was going to be around £1600 (eek) but may father being Mr Wheeler dealer already had a CR Toploader purchased when I went back to his to get the trailer to get the car (from a low mileage Tiger (as new condition and all Tigers were CR boxes) Quality!

Have all the dials, trim, glass loads to refurb and work out which bits go where!

The car came with some new race parts, i.e. all front and rear brakes and Tilton deal box and bias stuff.

We will have to change car to RHD but this does not look to be a big job.

Engine will need a total rebuild with all new race components but that will be much later in the project.

Car will be sitting around for a few months as have a to fix my TR4 engine then sell that and do some minor work on the Purple Beast (have Full Race TR6 to race in Thoroughbreds until Griff is finished – see Steve’s Reports and http://www.thoroughbredsportscars.com/).

We have a fair few bits to sell that we will not need for a racer so in the mean time we will be trying to find homes for these bits to help pay for a very small amount of the Project.
