TVR European Challenge Championship 2009

European TVR Challenge

To keep the series competitive across such a wide production run, it has been split into four categories.

Group A For AJP Tuscans, AJP GTFs and the like (275 bhp/tonne atw).

Group For RV8 cars (sub 275 bhp/tonne atw)

Group C For any other TVR .

Invitation Class For any other suitable invited race car

The Challenge maintains its Championship status in 2009 and points are awarded in every race for placed cars as well as fastest laps, which really encourages the competitors to compete at every round and to focus on reliability as well as outright pace. There are several AJP Tuscans on the grid as well as Tim Hood, Steve Glynn and Fred Tonge in their awesome Sagaris bodied cars. A couple of these have std AJPs in them, but a couple have savage Chevy power! Marc Hockin and Dean Cook (the current Champion) will pushing hard but as points are awarded by Class…anyone can win overall so everyone has a good chance!

With the series attending all the great circuits as well as some of the newer tracks, they are bound to be racing near you at least once in the year! From Cadwell Park to Castle Combe, Oulton to Brands Hatch, the guys are covering some serious miles across most of the U.K pursuing their passion for TVR and Motorsport.

A TV Deal is back on the cards for 2009! A new main sponsor has been found for the series this year and the revenue that this will generate will be used to fund TV Coverage. This is great news for the Championship. The series has continued to grow for the last 5 years or so, producing some outstanding racing and TV coverage will enable Teams to raise or maintain hard won sponsorship needed to fund this highly competitive high octane antics. It also means that you can watch the Rounds that you can’t get to from the comfort of your own homes and we can watch it when we get back!

Donnington Park is the venue of the TVR single Marque Racing 20th Birthday celebration on the 3rd and 4th of May.  We are expecting the biggest TVR grid for some years and Martin Short of Rollcentre Racing is expected to attend in a TVR Tuscan along with several other Champions. This will be a HUGE weekend as the TVRCC are looking into supporting the Event so make sure you are there for this one if nothing else!

If that’s not enough for 2009, work is ongoing for TVRs at Spa. Yes, JR is in talks to bring TVRs back to Spa as either a Best of British style race with MGs, Triumphs, Healeys, Jags and the like or possibly piggy-backing on to an existing race. As always, this depends on entrants and budgets but interest was very high at Autosport, so the chances seem good.

So if you need an excuse to drive your Tiv over the weekend, don't go for the 60-mile "milk or newspaper run!" Checkout the tvrmonster calendar or Events Forum and see who's near you and when.
I GUARANTEE you'll have a lot more fun!
