The 'Henry Recruitment' Thoroughbred Sportscars Championship

This year the Championship has been featured at race meetings organised by:  The MG Car Club, The BARC,  The 750 motor club and The Bentely Drivers Club.  The remaining two races will be at meetings organised by Castle Combe race circuit at Castle Combe on 16th September and The Classic Sports Car Club at Snetterton on 7th October.

You can see that with such a range of clubs organising events there is always something different to watch on the day.

The Championship is run predominantly for cars of the 1960, this year the field has seen MG’s, Morgans, Triumphs, Astons and E-Types to name a few.

Two tvr drivers have been contesting the races this year, both of them in Griffiths.

Roger Connell hails from Lockerbie in Scotland and has been racing his red tvr Griffith 200 for many years.  He is a regular top five competitor as you would expect with over 400 horse power available to him.  Roger’s car contests Class D and from 5 starts this year he has taken two class wins.

Steve Watton is this year contesting the Invitation class in his 1965 car and as such he is not eligible for overall championship honours.  He has been upholding the marques honour well though.  He won the first round at Brands Hatch and the second round at Donington Park, both in changing conditions and both after a tremendous battle with Roy McCarthy in his very fast and very well driven MGBV8.  Steve came second to Roy at the second Brands Hatch race but managed to beat him again at Oulton Park after a hard fought battle on the full circuit.  He has had some problems. Twice he was on the front row of the grid, when his ignition switch failed on him at the start.  Steve has sorted the problem out now though so hopefully there will be no more wasted front row grid spots.

We are really looking forward to Steve’s race reports. His beautiful Blue Griffith 200 is the dream car for many informed tvr owners and was STILL the fastest car at our first “tvr monster” at Snetterton last year. His car can be seen in the gallery and on the Media Pages with our own Griffith 500.
